Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela Congratulates MainStreet Award Winners

SANTA FE – Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela congratulated ten award winners at the New Mexico MainStreet Awards Ceremony in Taos. The New Mexico MainStreet Annual Awards recognize outstanding achievements and exceptional leadership among the state’s local MainStreet organizations and partners. Among this year’s awardees were the City of Las Cruces and the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership, receiving the Award for Community Economic Development, given by Secretary Barela. Four new communities were inducted into the program this year as Emerging Communities – Gallup, Harding County, Albuquerque’s Barelas neighborhood, and Bernalillo County’s South Valley – bringing the total to 27 MainStreet communities statewide. Both the Belen MainStreet Partnership and Taos MainStreet graduated from “Emerging” to “Start-Up” status this year, marking the achievement of certain organizational benchmarks within the program.

“I congratulate these communities and individuals for their various efforts in working to restore historical properties and communities,” said Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela. “The MainStreet program has shown time and again it is a great investment for communities in creating jobs, preserving historic properties and increasing business in traditional areas of commerce.”

CLOVIS MAINSTREET…is looking for a few good men and women!

Clovis, NM (June 3, 2013) Clovis MainStreet is seeking volunteers who want to make a difference in our historic downtown district.

Clovis MainStreet is a grassroots, volunteer driven, 501c3 dedicated to the revitalization of the historic commercial core of Clovis, NM. This district represents our past – our community story – and we want to preserve and improve this beautiful area for our children to enjoy. We have accomplished a lot in the last ten years, but there is still a lot to do.

We are looking for volunteers to serve on task squads and our board of directors.

Task Squads are short-term projects that are volunteer driven and don’t require a long-term time commitment. Some of our tasks include: Façade Squad (painting building facades), Flower Power (planting and maintaining some of the pots on Main Street), Taste This! Event (annual fund raiser), Wind Festival (signature event), Clean-Up Day, poster distribution for community events, walking tours, business recruitment, streetscape improvements, web site updates… and more! If there is something you are passionate about, we can find a task that connects with what YOU want to do.

The Board of Directors is a working board and requires a three year commitment.

If you are interested in learning more about these volunteer opportunities, please contact the Clovis MainStreet office.
